Willie Ray Eury was born on October 9, 1917, in Stanly County, North Carolina. He lived through significant historical periods, including the Great Depression and World War II. He married Julia Isabel Carpenter on December 2, 1936, in Stanly County, North Carolina. Together, they had four children: James Robert "Bill" Eury (1938–2000), Bertha "Beaver" Eury Forrest (1946–2020), Patricia Dianne Eury (born 1942).
Willie Ray worked as a textile worker in the local mills of Stanly County. His life was cut short when he passed away on August 25, 1960, at the age of 42 due to a motorcycle accident. He was laid to rest at Norwood Cemetery in Stanly County.

The News and Observer Aug 27th 1960, Sat · Page 5: Obituary incorrectly states his mother, Rosa, was alive in 1960; whereas she actually passed away in 1933 when Willie was just 15.
