Andrew "Andy" Jackson Hill was born to Allen and Louisa Hill in Union County, North Carolina. Andrew grew up in Union County till at least 15 years old (via 1870 census) and then on July 16th, 1976, he married Sarah Carpenter in Stanly County. He was 21 years old at the time and his wife was 29 years old. They had 3 children together: William Allen Hill (born 1877), James Henry Hill (born 1879), Rosa Agnes Hill (born 1884). His wife Sarah Carpenter is believed to have died some time around 1890; however, there are a lack of records (Death certificates weren't required by North Carolina until 1913). Andrew remarried on August 20th, 1895 to Margaret Harward and had three more children: Bessie Mae Hill, David F. Hill, and Charlie B. Hill.

On June 4th 1935, Andrew Jackson Hill was caught in barbed wire in a creek near his son's home in Cottonville. He drowned and was not found till days later by two small boys. He is buried at Cottonville Baptist Church in Stanly County, North Carolina.
